Professor Dietmar Muller Dietmar M received his undergraduate degree from the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel in Germany, followed by a PhD in Earth Science from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego/California in 1993.
After joining the University of Sydney as a Lecturer in Geophysics in 1993, he established the University of Sydney Institute of Marine Science and built the EarthByte e research group. He has supervised 16 research fellows, and graduated 29 PhD students and 31 Honours students. M funding record includes recent grants from the ARC Discovery, Linkage and Laureate Fellowship schemes ($3.95M), NCRIS ($2.1M), SIEF ($12M), AISRF ($300k), and industry funding ($1.6M). in 2017 he was also appointed as Director of the Sydney Informatics Hub. His EarthByte research group is known for pursuing open innovation, involving the collaborative development of open source paleogeographic information system software as well as global digital data sets made available under a creative commons license. One of the fundamental aims of the EarthByte Group is geodata synthesis through space and time, assimilating the wealth of disparate geological and geophysical data into four dimensional (space time) plate tectonic and Earth models. His research interests include marine geology and geophysics, plate tectonics, geodynamics, basin evolution, paleoclimate, paleoceanography, the deep carbon cycle, virtual globes, simulation and modelling as well as big/complex geoscience data analysis. Prof. M achievements have been acknowledged by winning the year 2000 Fresh Science Prize, awarded by the British Council and followed by the Carey Medal in 2004 for his contributions to the understanding of global tectonics. In 2006, he was elected Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and in 2009 he was awarded an Australian Laureate Fellowship. He was a finalist in the Australian Innovation Challenge 2011 and the Australian Museum Eureka Awards 2013. in 2016 he was awarded one of four Vice Awards for Outstanding Research at the University of Sydney first annual award ceremony. In 2017, he was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. The project is developing quantitative, cutting edge data analysis techniques to underpin the testing of new concepts for understanding basin structures, and aid in driving sustainable use of basin resources. The ARC Research Hub is designed to establish Australia as the leader in e Geoscience services and software in a basin analysis and management context. The software that will be developed in louis vuitton neverfull gm for sale this hub is unique in that it will all be open source and will facilitate the synthesis of geophysical and geological data with high resolution numerical models. The ARC Research Hub e Geoscience approach will enable basin explorers and managers to add enormous value to the abundance of digital geological data by including capabilities for visualizing and modeling processes. This capability will create a dynamic, evolving geological knowledge base. Research outputs, available through louis vuitton gold agenda pen an online basin model atlas, will help open new opportunities for delivery of data, software and added services. The Hub includes three Universities, five industry partners and a federal government agency. Read more here.
